Bowing Basement Wall Repair in Kelowna

A horizontal crack or a basement wall that's starting to lean in is the kind of foundation problem that doesn't fix itself. Caught early, it can often be stopped from the inside with carbon fibre straps, without digging.

Signs a wall is bowing

  • A long horizontal crack partway up the wall
  • The wall bulges inward when you look along it or hold a straightedge against it
  • Stair-step cracks in block walls
  • Gaps where the wall meets the floor or the framing above

If you're seeing these, have it looked at soon. Soil pressure keeps pushing, and the further a wall moves, the bigger the repair.

How carbon fibre straps work

Straps of carbon fibre are bonded to the inside of the wall with structural epoxy, spaced every few feet and anchored at the top and bottom. Carbon fibre is extremely strong in tension, so once it's on, it stops the wall from moving further. The straps are thin and can be painted or covered by a finished wall later.

Straps stabilize a wall where it is. They don't push it back. Walls that have moved a lot may need wall anchors, bracing or excavation instead. That call is made on site, sometimes with an engineer.

Carbon fibre strap cost in Kelowna

Straps typically run about $400–$700 each, depending on wall height and how many are needed (HomeStars Kelowna foundation repair cost guide, 2026). These are general ranges, not quotes. A typical wall needs several straps.

Common questions

Is a horizontal crack serious?

It's the crack type most worth getting checked, because it usually means pressure on the wall from outside.

Do I need an engineer?

For significant movement, often yes. We'll tell you if your situation needs one.

Can straps go on a finished basement wall?

The drywall and framing over that section usually has to come off first.
